An alternative interpretation is that less and less intellectual property or more accurately, intellectual capital is free.
These antiglobalization activists seek to change society's institutions, to banish inequality, and to provide a safety net for the most vulnerable citizens. For example, if a nation's strict environmental regulations will act as a barrier to a corporation's success, that business can sue the government in question for a loss of profits. Traditional Chinese medicine often incorporates ingredients from all parts of plants, the leaf, stem, flower, root, and also ingredients from animals and minerals. The anti-globalization movement is not primarily composed of Luddites who would take away telephone and e-mail, and in fact many of these groups make use of this technology themselves. Information Technology is often cited as the driving force behind this growth of interdependence — the ability for people and businesses to communicate worldwide. We, participants in the People's Conference Against Imperialist Globalization, representing people's organizations, nongovernmental organizations, solidarity groups, movements, networks and individuals from 34 countries in Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, North America and Europe, have come together to confront a common danger and respond to a common challenge. The movement had achieved some victories. Environmental topics appeared to have broken through to agendas that previously had been dominated by economic ones. Unlike many of the other problems with globalization, labour issues are highly visible, and it apparent from the number of protests and movements which have sprung up around this issue that this issue serves as a focal point for the anti-globalization movement.
